these guys that I had bought from gave a 6 month warranty. The shop that refered me to them had bought about 40 motors from them and only had an issue with one. They got a replacement engine in two days and shipped back the bad one.

The way I looked at it I went from 1.3 with Single cam and 1.3 double cam with at least double the HP.  If I had to do it again I'd buy a complete tracker 16V DOHC and slap that in there but only due to the fact taht I had to source out all the other parts....ECU, maf and all the crap.

;), YEAH but were the last of our breed!!!! most people wanna roll the dice w/ used motors. GOOD thing is, I always here about their success stories. SAD thing is, ??? I'm always the one that gets the bad one!?
Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some freakin' muscle.

And will they work with all my plugs ect in my 1997 LSI model?

On the Hondas and Toyotas I've seen it's bolt-out, bolt-in. The Japanese like to keep things as simple & modular as possible - it's a BIG part of keeping production costs down. I'm pretty sure Suzuki would be the same way considering they share a LOT of parts between models. Sean Devinny (http://members.cox.net/aftermarket4x4/) does a lot of engine swaps & is a proponent of JDM. Give him a call and ask to be sure... he's also got good pricing.

Buying from a reputable JDM supplier, who backs their junk with a warranty isn't rolling the dice any more than buying a rebuilt motor from a shop that backs their junk with a warranty. I really don't see how one is any more risky than the other.

That said, I'm down to rebuild my own junk, when there's a clear advantage to doing so. For me, that usually means when I want more performance bits.

I've owned a few JDM import vehicles and also the engines. Never had a problem and know of lots of others with the same experience.

Any reputable importer checks them over thoroughly before sale and offers a guarantee. I have more faith in a JDM engine than something likely to be found in a junkyard.

Exporting vehicles and half/front cuts is big business in Japan and the front/half cuts are generally bought as entire vehicles then chopped as it means they can fit more in a container as the parts in the rear of the vehicle aren't generally worth much by comparison.

Half cuts are great when doing engine conversions as you get almost everything you will need and quite often there are still parts that you can sell to others to help cover the costs.

I just liked that I know the complete history of the motor as well as exactly what parts are in it. Well, Eric does anyway.
