Another shock question
« on: July 24, 2004, 03:22:31 AM »
Hey All,
I am going to be installing a 1.5" coil spacer lift and was wondering if I should install longer shocks while I'm at it. I did a search and found that 2wd 99 F150 shocks seem to be a recommended mod but more for use with the Calmini 3" lift. Would they be too long for my application? Would the Crown Vic shocks be a better fit?

I also have a set of camber adjusting bolts coming so that it can be properly aligned afterward.

I'm lifting it up to clear a set of 235/75 BFG ATs that I'm having mounted on 15x7 AR767s.

Thanks much for any advice you have to offer  :)

Use Crown Vic shocks for the rear,
F-150 shocks are too long even with
3" spring spacers in the rear, you need
to relocate the upper shock mounts
if you want to use those

Spinal,

Let me know how that install goes.. I am panning that exact install on mine.. same tires, rims, and lift..

I hadn't thought about the shocks though... how badly do you need new shocks after that small of a lift...? is it highly reccomended if you plan on wheeling a bit? what about just street driving?

Thanks for any info..

I think Mike made a mistake when he mentioned the 1999 F-150 4x4 shocks, because on a later note he told me that you need to get the 1999 F-150 2WD shocks. (I guess they are shorter than the 4x4 shock)

I still havent gotten around to doing the rear end mods yet, but I'll let you know how it turns out when I get around to it.

Who the hell is Spiral ;)

I don't think you need to replace the shocks for such a minor lift, but being as I'm going to have it apart I may as well swap out the shocks at the same time. BTW mine is mostly a pavement queen, but that's no reason not to improve its off-road abilities as well  ;D
