rear main oil seal
« on: June 03, 2005, 02:15:23 AM »
ok, i've finally got my fly wheel off, and so i will attempt to change the rear main oil seal, only i dont have a clue. i sat under, well, in the tunnel, and had a good look at the back of the motor.

where the seal is, there is a plate that seems to hold the seal and has 5 or 6 bolts holding it in.

now, do i take this plate off to change the oil seal? is it simple as that, or is there more to it?

also, can i leave the sump on, or does the sump need to come off? previous owner/mechanic has sealed the sump with gasket goo in a tube, so if i take this plate off the back of the motor, will i be able to seal it up good again?

if the sump needs to come off, then the front diff needs to come out? that or the motor has to come out.

is it really this much hassle?

thanks
steve

ummm you really should buy a manual. then just follow directions from step one.

Not being an ass
I just replaced my clutch and we did it with out the manual for directions but we also missed a step so we had the transmission being held by me while my buddy removed the front driveline. which was step 3 or 4
ooops.

So I recomend the manual.
oh and I think you can get the seal out with a seal remover tool I was reading that section today. if you want I can put all the steps into this thread.
