Performance exhaust/muffler system
« on: October 25, 2003, 02:54:16 PM »
I am seriously thinking about getting a performance exhaust system or muffler.  Can anybody recommend me a manufacturer or their web site so I can take a look see.

Thanks for any info.

I'm running a Calmini header with a flowmaster exhaust. The hard steel casing of the flowmaster makes for a great off road mufler and it sounds / performs great too.

I am expecting my Calmini exhaust combo including hi-flo cat within the next couple of weeks, also installing their panel filter and a throttle body spacer at the same time...I'll let you know what the difference is when its installed.

BTW Calmini customer service has been incredible, if their product is half as good as the service I will be very happy!

No i don't race.  All we do in VT is mud.  if i'm going into a hole that i don't know,  the skinny pedal is barryed in the floor.  or if the water it over the hood then i try to get out of thair as quickly as possable.  wheel speed is everthing in mud.  I have stock gears, 5-speed tranny and 34's.

Ahhhhh, I see...  I dont do the deep mud thing unless it is totally necessary. Last night I went in a hole with my front end and it was over my 33's so I backed out.... A little wimpy but I dont have a winch yet.

Later,

Bill

Oh yeah, I raced a railbuggie with a 2100cc for a 300' run and just held on to take the win..  ;)  I launched at 4500 in 2wd and ran thru in 2nd at ?rpm.

ya i feel ya.  when you go into a hole you don't know things can get bad quick.  we all ways go wheelin in packs so we never have a truck that we can't get out. thair is only 2 people in the club that i'm in that drive zukis: me and my tracker and mark with his rock crawling sammy.  It does well on rocks but he has to run in 3 gear in the mud.  lata Stu

Calmini Header with a custom 2" mandrel bent mild steel pipe, Catco cat (2.5" for better flow) and then a Magnaflow straight through.  It's surprisingly quiet at all RPM's and flows like crazy.  Sounds pretty good without being all loud and ricey and obnoxious.

NY_SIDEKICKER, I am running a 2 -door 1991 Suzuki Sidekick JA 8V engine with automatic transmission.

Thanks for all the info guys...but I've looked into that stuff through various online retailers/manufactures like Calmini and so on, and I really can't afford that kind of gear.

The only reason why I asked was because my current stock muffler is falling apart and is noisy as hell... so  I figured maybe I can replace it better with some else.

I think what I'm going to do is buy a new genuine Suzuki exhaust and try and retro fit it to be stronger and more durable then the old one.

OK, I just got back from the exhaust shop. I had my Calmini exhaust combo with hi-flo cat installed. This thing rocks...it revs much quicker now...accidently bounced it of the rev limiter cuz it was pulling so stong. The guys that installed it thought the system cost me around $850, they were blown away when I told them that it only cost $450...these guys do a lot of ricer exahausts...

In short I am VERY impressed with the quailty of the exhaust and the performance gain. Now I just have to throw in my throttle body spacer and hi-flo air filter for that little something extra ;)

To be quite honest, I have been looking at the CALMINI system, (Model #SK901) and when converted to Canadian dollars comes to almost the same as for a genuine Suzuki muffler.  My exhaust is still holding up.  It's just noisy from all the leaks and squeaking parts rubbing together.

So I e-mailed CALAMNI to find out how much shipping to Canada is and I think I'm going to order their system early next spring, after the messy winter is over.  I think it's going to be great!
