I have a 1997 Suzuki sidekick sport with the 1.8 16v. Recently the clutch started slipping pretty bad and I have a new one on the way. I'm looking to find the easiest way to get at the clutch. Would it be easier to get it up as high as i can and drop the transmission or would it be easier to remove the engine. Or engine and tranny together? I just recently bought this sidekick and its my first zuki so im not sure how easy the engines are to remove, I come from the aircooled vw world were 4 bolts and few wires drops the engine lol

It's usually easier to drop the trans, but you have a T-case to add to the weight
so you might want to drop that first and then the trans.

If your transfercase does not come off easy there is a hidden bolt on the top of it, I think it is under the shifter housing.

Also, your Sport has a hydraulic clutch system.  Study it carefully before disassembling to avoid breaking open the system.  If you do, you'll have to bleed the air out of it.  Sport info is a bit scarce on the Internets....

You can unbolt the slave cylinder and tie it out of the way.

You should be able to just slide the tranny/tcase back far enough and not to actually have to drop them out, to access the clutch.  You'll have to remove the rear driveshaft, of course.  And you can either drain the tcase, or undo the front driveshaft and make sure it stays in the tcase, when you move it back.
X2 on unbolting the slave cylinder.  That is how I have done it before, when removing the tranny from the 1.8.
