Sidekick 8v Headers
« on: May 08, 2004, 04:33:19 AM »
Hi Guys,

Does anyone out there knows about exhaust headers for Sidekick 1,6 8v?

Do they offer what they promise or not?

Is there the possibility to increase the emissions of the car after installing a header?

Road is... The boring part that joins two mud tracks.

I got a Calmini header on my Tracker, and I noticed a pretty big power difference when I put it on.  I'm running 31's and I don't have any probs going 100km+ down the highway.

I'm not sure about emissions.  I live on Vancouver island and there aren’t any emission laws here so I wouldn’t know if it changed or not.

It seems that your emmisions would stay the same, as long as you keep your stock exhaust system... but I don't know for sure. Pure conjecture.

Thanx a lot guys.

What about RRO (Thorley) Headers vs Calmini Headers?

Has anyone tried the Thorley?

I am not sure about the emisions, as headers need to be carb approved to be legal for the street, and the Calmini is not, not sure about the thorly, I have heard they were made by Thorly for Calmini. The Calmini header is top notch and dirt cheap for a header, price out headers for Hondas $ 400.00 easy.

I was really close to passing my emissions  without my cat.  I run the Calmini header (16 valve) and 2" exhaust with a magnaflow muffler.  I had to weld the cat back in to get it to pass.  I was soooo close without it.  With the cat in it makes the grade by a mile.  Oh ya, and the power difference between running the cat and not, is unbelievable

On 8v engines, there is no O2 sensor at the cat.

Yea but my thought was with the 16valve their is a second o2 after the cat. If it were to read rich (from removing the cat) wouldnt the computer lean it out?

Would it read rich if you removed the cat, but replaced the O2 sensor back into the exhaust system? Or could you just unplug it, or would that cause some adverse affect?
