Where do you buy your Drivr Side CV shaft\axle?
« on: January 26, 2012, 01:17:23 PM »
I hear the shafts are usually green to signify rebuilt and rebuilt are best.

Any thoughts?

I went through so many from a national parts chain that they banned me from the life time warranty on the shafts (Locked, geared and 33's). I started getting used factory ones after that and they are MUCH better. Call Trail Tough, I'm sure they have some from the inventory they just acquired from Hawk Strictly Suzuki.

I've picked up a few good used factory ones off ebay for as little as 15 bucks. Always pays to have a couple of spares. the factory ones are definitely the best.

Looks like the Napa's are too short as this happened after a few whoops - 5 minutes tops

You need a  Diff Drop Bracket Set. How much lift you got?

He has the drop installed (came with the 3" kit), you can see it in the pics.

RJ,
Any chance you have the top strut mount flipped and the mount drop (that comes with the 3" lift) installed? If so, put the upper mount back to stock position (un-flipped). On my 89 kick, I went from the Calmini 2" lift to the 3" lift and had issues with the same cv pulling out past the retainer clip (just like what you are experiencing). After looking into it, I had left the upper strut mount inverted when I installed it to the upper mount drop bracket. Once I flipped it back to stock, the problem stopped.

I did not flip the strut mount.  I can take some more pictures when I get home today. Anything you want to see in particular besides the strut mout?

The sad part is that the stock shaft was in their for about 5 years after the lift and the stock shaft is still on the passenger side, I know the passenger side is longer but it is still a great selling point that a 20 year old shaft still holds up better than new.

The Napa shaft is 19 1/4" according to their website
Does anyone know the length of a Suzuki used shaft?

I'm calling Trail Tough when they open today as well.  I saw some on E-Bay for around $40 with shipping.  Napa's site had them for $60 not including the $83 core

The complete build started out with the Calmini 3 + 3 and morph with the build from Rockmolester http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444978

Good call. Give TT a call and get a factory replacement. Most aftermarket ones are junk.

Brent at Trail Tough did not know off the top of his head what the compressed length of the driver's side shaft was but did say I could try running the shaft without the c-clip to give it more float

Does anyone know if the original shaft is longer than 19 1/4" ?

Does anyone run without the c-clip in the front shaft?

thanks

I was looking at a 92 4Runner it said it was 21 1/16" with a 6 bolt end and the Zuk is 19 1/4" with a 3 bolt end
Do you swap the ends or is there a more specific year?  I think the roughly 2" more on the 4Runner would help immensly.  I wonder why more Zuk owners don't change over - Thanks

PM 37Kicker (Stan) and copy MikeRPM4x4 (Hagen). Stan was making a conversion kit to allow us to use Toyota CV's on Kicks. I have not seen him on here in a while, but if you cc Hagen, he will know if Stan is still making the kit.

I thought those were made for rigs with the Hagen front end mod, Anvil front, or welding the adapters.  I am still just stock with no welding experience or a welder for that matter.

I know you need to do the widening for them to fit, but not sure about the rest.
