Found electical problem
«

Last weekend I posted about my headlights and interior lights and radio not working.  I took the Tracker to a local shop and they found the wires leading to the fuse block under the hood were severely coroded.  They said the wires fell apart in their hand.  The fuse block only costs $40 but a wiring harness will have to be fabricated and that could be 4-6 hours in labor.  Hopefully this solves all my problems.

I picked up my Tracker from the shop today. The fuse box was the source of the lighting problems. It cost way too much to fix though. The idle problem appears to fixed also. I think the starter is going though. It has been starting, but the starter sounds weak. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap starter?

Check your charging system and battery condition.
Weak starter could be weak battery

The charging system puts out between 14 and 15 volts when idling fast. The battery is one week old, but is a Wal-Mart cheapo.

Amps not Volts charges a battery, you need
a load test on the Batt and the system, could
be a weak battery.
The thing that goes bad in a starter is the solenoid,
then the brushes sometimes.
good luck

Today I removed the starter and took it to AutoZone for testing. It tested fine. They cleaned up the terminals. I put some dialectic grease on them when I put in back in. Since then it is spinning quick and starting!
