Coil Suspension

I am thinking of purchasing a coil suspension from Rocky Road Outfitters.  I was wondering if anyone knew of another kit like this one?  also, does anyone have one of these kits on there sami? pros/cons?

I know Zooky is running this setup on his Sammy with 35's and L/C axles. Maybe P/M him...

hey did you trim the fenders at all on your red track? whatis the rim, and tire set up you run including backspacing? Your rig is just like I want mine to be not too wild, not too mild.

I have Shaffers kit, its like RRO's (kinda). Spent last summer working the bugs out. My last time out (october) it performed excellent but I rolled it and Im still putting it back together. I am doing some other mods which should keep me busy this summer working out those bugs. Take a look at Shaffers kit, its cheaper and "improved"

I have the Rocky Road coil setup on my 86. Glenn Wakefield (the owner) lists the item on E-bay and will allow you to add upgrades at discounted prices from the web site.
I am not at all a good welder so I took the kit to a professional. He reports the quality and craftmanship of the materials is excellent. His shop installs 4link and other high end offroad setups on full size trucks. His one gripe was the instructions were vague. RRO has a tech line but even the professional took more than the 2 days indicated in the instructions.
How does it perform? I dont know. It was just finished today ;Dand I still need to install the crawler gears and lockers. I hope to give you a report in a couple of weeks.

With 175 pound springs and adjustable (or stiff shocks)
it should ride very nice and handle well as long as you pay attention to the castor angles and steering correction.

Do you have to change from the stock steering box ? or just change the arm?

Here is an update on the new coil suspension. The one thing that maybe a problem is the length of the front shocks. The professional who did the install thinks they are about 4 inches too long and will limit the amount of flex I should get.  If so, it should be a easy fix. You may want to order the kit w/o the shocks and install your own.
I have the 8" coils and the tire clearance with the 35s is good. I did need to trim some metal in the rear fender wells.
The steering is the stock setup (I bought the toyota power steering kit) using the stock box. I also have the pan hard steering which repaces the stock arm.  I will try to post some pictures if you want.
