A lot more common than you think. Normally located between Cylinder 1 and 2 that is a crack caused by 2 things.
#1 Not having the main cap girdle installed
#2 It did get over temped on one occasion.
FYI,
16v plenum sensors are incapable of reading steam on a C-H gauge. Yes even the Factory gauge. The needle does go up for a second during a hot condition and then immediately drops to cool. ALWAYS use a real water temp gauge and sensor with 16v. They are unforgiving when it comes to being overheated. The good news is that that crack will not affect anything, It goes no where. Does not hurt Crank and/or main journal bearings.
