Cross member variations?
« on: August 31, 2017, 04:01:26 PM »
How many different style cross members are there? I think the PO used a 2wd cross member on my new Sport.  The transmission mount from Low Range is different than the one on the vehicle. I am not near my old one to compare the two.

Are there different cross members for 2wd and 4wd?  What about 2dr and 4dr?  Are the sport cross members different than the standard models?

I have found different styles of cross members, all of which have bent eventually.  Your sport cross member should be different, as the frame is 4" wider (as I have heard).
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

I found a rear trans mount on Amazon, that matches the one installed on this Sport. It has 4 bolt holes, two into the cross member and two into the trans. The typical mount has two holes into the cross member and the trans rests on top of it.  It appears to be the same mount used for the Sport and then the Vitara until 2002.
