Well that's a sort of correct thought, Octane is
resistance to detonation under heat and pressure,
not to spark, we want the mixture to burn, not
detonate like an explosion, much too
violent on the engine, and with extended high
power use while pinging can result in holes in
the pistons, and somtimes if the pistons survive
the rods can be bent from the extreemly high
pressures from fuel pre-detonation, ping is bad,
I'm fighting it now that I'm running 9 PSI
boost, even on 91RON which is the best I can get
from the pump.

Did you add an extra injector to your system?

No, I added 4  ;D, I got them all plumbed in
and running real good, 0-65 in a flash, I haven't
timed it yet, but I need to get some 1/4 Mi and
speeds to use the poor mans dyno and figure HP.

Best guess is 150-160 but it's based on known
boost / HP increases

Was it THAT bad?

Well, I dunno, I just wish I could
get 103 at the pump.

I did some tweeking of the injection styles,
from 2 squirts per injection cycle to a single
squirt, all the pinging went away, so I'm good
on 91, I might even see if I can get back down
to 89 or 87 gogo juice.

I'm still tuning the injection pulse widths at
vacuum thru boost, I got the high boost working
fine, but I don't always drive at full boost, so I'm
working to get the economy at lower boost levels,
like between 2 and 6 PSI, as this is where lots of
driving takes place, the turbo is really too small,
it spools so quickly that boost is building almost
too fast, just a little off idle, by 1/4 throttle I got
3-4 PSI just taking off from a stop sign, this is a
good problem, since I like the boost to come up
quickly off road too.

Hey Wild,
Check gas stations near local drag strips. Even if they are little Mom and Pop gas stations they usually have 103 for moded street rides hitting the strip ;)

There is no reason to use higher that 87 octane in most cases. Newer cars have higher comp ratios than they did a few years back and need higher octane gas. Built motors with greater than about 10.5 to 1 comp and turbo motors with high boost are where you start needing the octane. Two stroke comp ratios are  generally a bit higher and can take advantage of higher octane gas. My friend only runs 110 through this RM250 and Banshee. Here's something that can net a little  more HP. Built motors would probably show better gains. Fill er up with 92 octane and advance your timing 1 to 2 degrees. But with prices at the pump being what they are I'm going to stick to 87(hey......why did we invade Iraq only to end up with higher gas prices anyways?).

I understand gas in Iraq is like $.05 a gallon,
I'd say OPEC has a lot to do with it, |removethispart|@$&|removethispart|@&%s
I prefure to call them OPRIC, because all they
do is monopolize the oil production and mess
with prices, we should be taking all the oil we
need from Iraq for all the crap Sudam caused
and the loss of our Soldiers, as well as the cost
we will incure for the rebuilding of their country.
