Dont Panic, it was not a Zuk ;)

A friends Kia Jumped timing and bent a valve. What other dammage could this of done to her motor? The mechanic the F'ed up the timing belt is going to fix it but can this cause other problems dow the road?

The only other thing I can think of is
a hole in the piston, but that is when
the top of the valve pops off and trashes
the head too.

have the rod checked too.  I've seen a piston stay intact on like this but the rod is ever so slightly bent.

And yes, thank the gods of hamamatsu it was NOT a zuke!

The Zuke is on its way out.  Getting a vehicle that will behave and be supported by the dealer.

I have a phobia of Timing Belts....  :(

I watched my mechanic very carefully when he replaced mine a few months back.  I was pretty freaked out.

It can do any and all of bent rods, crapped heads and holes in pistons.  HOWEVER some engines were designed with this problem in mind, and have the valve recesses cut in the piston, with sufficient clearance.  My mazda was the same way, I started jumping teeth on the right side because of a faulty tensioner and the engine ran on the left bank while the right bank's cam just did it's thing.   New tensioner, idler pulleys and belt and the car ran great.

Thanks, the mechanic tore the motor down this weekend and we should find out something by the middle of the week.

why not just get another one from the wreckers? probably a better way of doing it, you dont want a stress crack to haunt you

The Mechanic screwed it up and he his fixing it. He is a reputable mechanic that hired a slacker, and I'm sure that he will fix it right. If ti would of been cheaper to just buy another motor from the junk yard, I'm sure he would of done it.
