New paint opinions.
« on: October 30, 2003, 08:35:13 AM »
Ive been really thinking about painting my rig a new color. So many cool photos are wasted because you cant see whats going on. Too much black. :'( :'( :'( :'( This really saddens me because I really like black.

Ive thought about staying kinda mild by just adding some silver/blue scallops, flames, ect. Mabey chrome rims? This would blend well with the Calmini blue suspension and the silver Tracker emblems.

OR

Go nutz and paint the inside and out orange with red accents. My first choice would have been yellow but a close freind of mine is building a sweet Yellow tracker right now. I dont want to copy or even be close. Down side is I drive it daily and I doubt there is any sliding by the cops in a rig of that color.

One more thing I want to keep in mind is simplicity. If I cave a fender in I dont want to have to try and match some crazy paint scheme.

Any thoughts?

Mike

Personally... I would say either blue or green. That orange color is going on too many rigs these days... just my opinion...

I would say metalic blue for nice looks, but i'd also like to see a camo paint scheme. Black is also nice, and your pics look fine.

Just stay away from the 'I'm high on Krylon'-type paint job.

Like this one.

dam that look bad.  I think the urben(black & white) camo would look pretty sick.  I'm the only one with a Tracker around here so i can paint mine anything.  i'm thinkin about yellow because neon green would be a lil much for the Tracker. lol  lata Stu

That's one ugly sammy!!!! I'd go with an electric blue for a change of pace.  Just don't go Purple, 'cause that's the color my Sammy will be turning next spring  ;D

Heather, you do have a point with the orange.

I like the urban camo but Ive seen it quite frequently in magazines lately. Besides I just think of it more as a sami color. That might be because Brent from trail tough has his sami that color. :-/ Another thing I was kinda shooting for is not being mistaken for another black tracker at an event. There are now 6 or 7 nice black ones that I know of running around. We have 5 in our club alone! I think that some scallops or some other addition to the original paint would do the trick.

Now Im kinda diggin the Urban Camo Idea. :-/ Not to Gaudy but different.

Keep the Ideas comming ;)

Thanks to those of you that have already replied.

I went with 32 Coats of Polly-U. just in case I scratch the paint i could buff it out. The color Mercedes Black.
And I am still in the process of powder coating the underbelly Calmini Blue.

Mine is also black and I was thinking of a white to red fade flame job  ( grill to the doors)just to add color to an all black rig. Black is a good base coat, a whole body color change is a lot of work. What about some white or yellow graphics, can anyone say bumblebee or more like a yellowjacket but thats my thoughts for the day.

Ok here's a diffrent one, one of my favorites for some unknown reason is a turqoise light green that you see mostly on mid to late 60's Chevy and GMC trucks.  It's non metalic, which means you could probably patch it up pretty easy.  Hope someone out there knows the color. Oh well, just a thought ;D   Dave

OK mike I have the solution to all of your problems, Paint it Orange, move to Tennessee and any cop that spots you will think your a UT fan and never give you a second look ;D

Really I got an idea, you want to stay black but you also like orange ??? Keep the Black and highlight with Orange. You can keep the majority Black (easy to fix when dented) and put orange Rally Sport racing stripes down the top. Then hit the roll bar, rock sliders etc.. with orange also. "Hagen's Rally Sport Tracker" has a cool sound to it ;) ;D :o 8) 8) 8)

Hey Mike,

If nothing less, maybe I can get you to laff.

1st Suggestion - Go white, to 180* from where you are now.  You can always see white at night.  Good guys always wear white (lull them into a false sense of security). ;)

2nd Suggestion - Add orange tiger strips .  Then everytime you hop and bounce of the rocks, you can start singing, "The wonderful things about Tiggers, are Tiggers are a wonderful things..."  You know the rest.  :P If nothing else, Eric and reach inside your cab, grab your elongated folicle extrustions, and exclaim, "Hey, I caught a tiger by the tail!" ::)

3rd Suggestion - Invest in more cans of black rattle.  Can't get more simple than that.  Screw photos, they never do the hard obsticles justice anyway.  Besides, you'll paint and make it look all foo-foo only to slide it down a boulder on Lower Hell and wonder why you ever wasted the time and money (see YT tag foto). ;D

Junk food for thought.

How about a different type of camo like Dupont Imron paint that changes hues depending on the way you look at from different angles. ::)
