Just Some Pics of My Junk.......
« on: September 08, 2003, 07:14:54 AM »
Here are a few pics of my Samurai.  It´s been laid up for the best part of a year after I sucked water into the bottom part of the engine...... :-[

Since I had to rip into it anyways, I decided to swap the motor out for a 1.6 16 valve from a Swift.  The mechanical part was easy, the nightmare has been the electrical wiring.  I STILL CANNOT FIND THE SCHEMATIC FOR THIS ECM!!!!!!!! ???

But slowly I´ll get there........

Other crap done during the downtime:
- full roll cage
- beadlocks for the 35" Swampers
- stinger front bumper with 12000 lb winch
- soft doors

Comments welcome........

For wiring harness to adapt the 1.6L 16 valve to your Samurai, I'd suggest Brent at Trail Tough. 877.789.8547 He can make a plug and play harness for you!

I noticed the intake looks different. I wonder if you could put the US 16 valve computer, intake, and everything on that engine? OR, it kindo f looks like the fuel injected Samurai/Swift set up with the throttle body. Maybe that would help?

I could do that, but I´d end up spending a lot of dough......  I went with the swift SPFI engine in the first place because it was a lot cheaper than the 16 valve MPFI out of a Vitara.......

My truck was a factory coily, one of those made in Japan from 1997 to 1999, when Suzuki was retooling / debugging for the introduction of the Jimny.  I bought the Sami new in 1998.

Since that time, I´ve completely redone the suspension and drivetrain from the frame down, new springs, repositioned shocks, new control arms.  there literally exists original NOTHING from the tranny down.  Even the t-case has been swapped out for one from the old-style Samurai to enable the installation of gearing.

The axles are both Dana 30, which for a Zuk is plenty strong, IMHO, especially if you don´t do rocks.  The front is ARB´d, the rear welded.  And therein lies the reason for the locking rear hubs.  When I have to drive on asphalt, I unlock the rear hubs, lock the front ones, put the t-case in 4x4 high and drive around in 4x2 front wheel drive.  Works great!!!!!!! 8)

I´m set up eventually to do a rear steer, but for now, I´ve just locked it straight ahead.  One day I´ll get around to making it operational using a double ended hydraulic cylinder.........

billj - at any rate your rig is looking tight, and ready for  a Baja Rally. One quick question tho why rear steer doesn't it turn sharp enough or, do you wish to turn on a dime and get nine cents back? Or perhapse your looking to do some serious rock crawling.  ???

Ha!!!!!!!!  Baja Rally?!?!?  With the gearing, my rig does around 50 MPH, tops........

No real reason to do rear steer, just another project to undertake.  I do all of this for my personal enjoyment, from the design to the fab to the install....... :-*
