Bumper pretty much finished...
« on: September 01, 2003, 01:35:53 PM »
Just have to add on the Jerry Can mounts, and a stopper for the arm to keep it from swinging all the way around when it is open. Also needs another coat of paint...

Whatchoo think so far?

Heaven help anyone that runs into the back of you.
First look I thought it was too low, but as I see it
in some of the othere pics it will be OK, watch your
knees around that thing tho, take your caps right off.

I saw a 2 door hardtop, a Nissan quest rearended the guy,
totally destroyed the Quest, bent the bumper down on the
zook, I would say this bumper is a bit more stout than the
stocker, looks bullet proof !!

Good Job ;)

Looks pretty good.  I built a similar square tube bumper for the back of my Sammy, but I don't have the tire swingout on it.....yet.  What did you use for a pivot point?  I didn't see any pix of it on your website.  Did you put a bronze bushing or a bearing in for it to turn on??

BTW, here's a shot of mine...

You can see the hinge point here: http://www.whitepineclub.com/members/kd7hcg/pictures/rearbumper2/index.html

We used a hub and spindle from a trailer. This includes the bearings and the grease. The original hub with the flange that had the four bolts was cast and you couldn't weld to it, so we hade a tube machined with the same dimensions minus the flange. The new tube got the races and the bearings too.

It works really well.

We still are going to cap the ends off the bumper so it will look cleaner.
