Hey I am interested in modifying a 1998 1.8 Sidekick. I thought using the K & N air filter and better plugs and cables. Any suggestions are appreciated.

First of all, welcome to Zukiworld.  Secondly, I think people would need to know what your objectives are.   Based on what you have mentioned I assume you are looking at general performance on the road, and maybe a little more power.  If you want to go 4 wheeling, rock crawling, or even racing there is a whole host of other things you can do.  I would suggest you look at Zaggy's project to build a Rally Sidekick.

Welcome

Check around the site some there are some great threads on modifications from basic stuff (aircleaners, headers, exhaust) to real "Wild" stuff like turbo charging and intercooling. All depends on how far you want to go.
Great place to start is by reading back 8-10 pages on the board and figuring out the direction you want to go.

Have fun...

Zag what you talking about headers and stuff.  I thought we had this conversation. Anything for a 1.8 is not only rare but next to impossible to come by. I'll share with you what i did to make my sidekick sport handle better. I made me own open air intake useing a cone filter and made a metal support bracket to hold the filter. Second i put a magnaflow flow 2 and 1/2 inch exhaust from the cat back. I also put bosch 4+ plugs in. I like them there are many different opinions. And last but least there are no wires on a 1.8 instead it has coil packs so if you got the connections i suggest finding someone with the know how to make a chip i got lucky and had one made from jet it was a little over $200. We also have twin over head cams chain driven. I had my cam custom ground before i made the chip and had the fuel and spark set to match with the chip. I ended up with a bad ass sport. But i could always use more hp.  i also lowerd mine and put 20s on. If you want pictures let me know. Us sport kicks are the odd ball of the kicks.
