Where to get Samurai Rag Joint Eliminator
« on: October 03, 2005, 06:16:59 PM »
Well Trail tough may have just lost any future business from me. Sorry LocJaw.
I called because I know they have rag joint eliminators and got the run around.
They do have them but will not sell them separate.
WHAT DO PEOPLE DO WHO WANT TO GET RID OF THE RAG JOINT.
GRRRRRR.

Any way before I go to hacking up my steering shaft.
Does anyone know where to buy a rag joint eliminator????
found a write up on izook about one that petroworks sold but I don't see it on the web site anymore.

Salvage a Track/Kick steering shaft,
they have U-joints on both ends

mine with the p.s. has the top shaft from the sammie with the plastic part broke loose so it will slide in and out,the bottom shaft has a u joint that bolts to the steering box on one end and has a short shaft with the two ears on it for the rag joint, they are lined up with the ears on the sammie shaft and have two small bolts through them,no rag joint, thats it. what ya got?

Well what I am trying to accomplish is power assist steering from a sidekick in my sammy.
Got the power steering pump, box and canister from locjaw with a sidekick steering shaft.

got the kit from sky's thinking that I could just extend the side kick steering shaft out.
No luck on that well then I thought I would call trail tough and buy the rag joint eliminator (rant about that already, what do they do when someone breaks one and needs a replacement?)
anyway. I'm just trying to figure out what to do. Maybe calmini will sell theirs separate from the kit.
well it's time for bed I'll look at this tomorrow.

it's really easy to do.  I've built about 3 of them so far.  If you can't weld, or don't have access to a welder, a buddy of mine used some JB weld on his and it's still holding just fine.

I'm sorry, JB Weld and Steering should never be used in the
same sentence, JB Weld is not a substitute for a real weld, I
would never use JB Weld (Epoxy Resins) for a safety related item

No way I'd trust my life (or the lives of others) to JB weld ... that's just plain STUPID.

I'd pay to have it welded first sorry there.  I'm thinking that my plate idea might work. Sort of a rag joint only in metal.

Sorry if I didn't post clearly..he's using the JB Weld where the factory plastic piece is that holds the shafts and lets it slide together. (drilled it out to make his new steering).  One side is Factory welded, the other slides in and out to make it easy to remove the steering link if he ever needs to.
It's 100% Safe, I assure you, there's no possable way for it to come loose, or slide apart with 2 U-joints at each end.  It's not a road rig, so no worries about it comming apart and killing someone on the highway.
Mine is welded (so you all can breath easier) and it's been a great little mod on my sami.
