very high idle

very high idle

Hey Guys,
 Just got my engines swapped out in my 90 Tracker,had to use my old intake and throttlebody on the newer engine"93" i think not sure.. Anyway when i fired it up it was idling around 3 grand, old engine would idle around 2 grand til it warmed up... What can i do to lower it down??? I've tryed turning the idle screw but that didn't help at all... Any IDEAS??????

Are you sure you made the proper adjustment? There may be, check with your manual :) , two adjustments for idle. The warm idle adjust (that would be the real common one ) and an idle up or cold idle adjust. Maybe you adjusted the wrong one?

Check the vacuum pipes around the throttle body. The idle up is engaged by default, the ECU switches the vacuum through to the Throttle Opener Vacuum Switching Valve (TOVSV) to disengage it. The TOVSV is at the front of the engine as shown in the pic below. if you have an early 8V you probably have two of these, the second is for the EGR valve. The vacuum pipe on the TOVSV comes from the manifold and then goes off to a plunger on the back of the throttle body. Like Eric said, that may need the gap adjusting.

check for a too tight throttle cable,
it will hold the throttle open
