A dream, cross America trail

A dream, cross America trail

Here is a vision for us Wheelers,  A cross America off road vehicle trail that would basically run from east coast to west coast!

In my dream I see a basic trail that would be accesable by high clearance 4WD SUVS with side spur trails that are rated with higher catagories. 

The trail could be a system of interconnected trails from old rail lines, abandoned roads etc.

I could see it starting up in Maine and working south to FLorida then heading west along a southern route west  through the southern states to California.  Then maybe run north all the way through California up to Washington State, then east through the northern states back to Maine.

Anyone with ideas to expand the dream?

What's cool about this dream is that the right of ways would be all thats needed because it wouldnt need paving.  Maybe just some gravel in some spots.

Hey, they're doing rail to trail bicycle trails all over the country and greenways up and down the coasts, why not slip in a little off road trail too?

in utah can go frm arizona to idaho on an atvs.  some offroad some on.
but they dont let zuks damnit

This has already been started and should be completed by next summer. I developed the Kentucky section this past summer. It was designed for adventure motorcycles but will also work for small 4x4's like the Samurai. I have had my 87 LWB through the KY section myself. Here is the link:  http://www.transamtrail.com/

It has taken Sam 15 years to get to where it is now, I vowed to help him finish it by next year. It uses county and forestry roads and is 100% legal. Each day takes you from 200-250 miles and ends at a hotel each day.
On a side note, if anyone is interested in doing a 2 or 3 day loop around KY that is mostly offroad, I would be willing to guide it.

I really don't have any dates, I just thought I'd throw the idea out there. It can be zook only or we can invite the Jeep guys.

Might be interesting to start in Oregon and work our
way to Nevada and do some of the ghost town circuit
OR cruise all the way to Moab for EJS, make it a 2 week
trip, one to get there and one to wheel Moab, I just
don't know how comfortable you guys would be driving
all the way to Moab in your Zuks.
