there is an arb air locker for the xl7!
« on: December 22, 2006, 09:40:38 PM »
the application chart on arb's site says

"Grand Vitara/XL7 (to 2005) front requires conversion using RD88, Vitara/Sidekick third member assembly and free wheeling hubs."

"Grand Vitara/XL7 (to 2005) rear requires conversion using Vitara/Sidekick third member assembly (and 26 spl axle shafts if required
No application for current model (2005 on) Grand Vitara."

has anyone installed one of these?

I hate to tell you this but you can"t bolt a Sidekick 3rd in place of a xl-7 one.  A GV  will work but the xl-7 isa  much bigger 3rd.

Trust me, do not, under any circumstances, move down in size and durability to a GV pumpkin/third member.  I am at 75K miles, and have broken the pinion gear for the third time.  No abuse, minimal off-roading, and I even went farther on the 'Kick 5.12 diff than the second GV diff.  OEM diff, 55K miles, second GV diff, 5K miles, third 'Kick diff, 15K miles.  At least I know what the noise of diff failure sounds like when it's about 100 miles from detonation.

Right now, I'm not far away from slapping an XL-7, automatic trans, entire rear axle under there.  I'm tired of this part breaking...
'99 GV JLX+,manual front hubs,F&R 5.12 'Kick diffs,KYB's all around, tube & fin A/C condenser which shames the OEM one,Jeep TJ spring spacers on rear coils,225/75/16 BFG AT's, Yellow Box,missing lower half of the airbox (sound reasons),set up to tow behind a big diesel motorhome...XL rear axle soon?

I bet ARB is talking about the front not the rear.
