Sidekick engine without computer?

Sidekick engine without computer?

Is there a not-too-complicated way to get a 1.6L 8v to run without a computer? Could I put a Samurai intake on it with an aftermarket carb that doesn't require a computer?

Why not just get a computer?  They are around $100 on ebay and from junk yards.

I have the computer... I want to ditch it on a forthcoming sidekick project that I'm planning (it's not for my beautiful black chop-job). :)

And for another question: in an 8v 5spd, does the computer control anything outside the engine? Is it tied into/controls the rest of the electrical systems, too, or what?

Sure, you can run without a computer
if you swap to a carb, as long as it's
not an Auto Trans

Will the ignition coil get the failsafe signal without an ECU? If not you could use a 413 dizzy and coil

I was kinda wondering if the Samurai 1.3l distributor will bolt right up to the 1.6l head...

I don't know what you get over there I was thinking of the electronic type without the ECU. My understanding is that it drops straight in. I need to confirm this though as I plan on replacing the points dizzy in my 410 (I know the 410 and 413 swap) for a 1.6 MPI dizzy

I think it'd be less complicated for this project to just keep the computer and EFI.

I dont know what youre doing, but as far as wheeling, I'd never go carburated.  Maybe on a mudrun, where its full throttle all the way.

I'd say keep the Efi. You might want that rev limiter for mud ;D

Yes but there was also a 413 that wasn't a Sammi. It was an earlier version with the narrower track of the 410.

Watcha' talking bout, Willis? I have a dual set-up 40MM Carbs and it's an automatic transmmission. *NOTE* I'm not running any emission controls or computer.
