Do you lock your softtop?
« on: June 24, 2004, 02:18:18 AM »
As you all know the softtops on our Trackkicks don't present much in the way of security.  My 90s tailgate didn't even come with a lock.  So I am wondering if you lock your doors when you park it?  I usually put anything slighly valuable in the glove compartment and lock it.  I rarely lock the doors though.  I figure I don't want someone messing with the top to get at what little I keep in the truck.  The only thing I worry about is a $25 set of tools I keep in it.  But I figure I can stand to loose $25 if it comes to that.

Wow! No lock in the tailgate? Never seen that one. Everry one that I've seen, worked on, or parted out had a lock in the gate. If you need a lock cylinder with a key, I bet I have one.

There is no hole in the gate for a lock!  That must have come on later years.  I like how the new ones come with a hard plastic shield that makes a sort of trunk when you lock the tailgate.  I can't even add that type of thing though because the tailgate doesn't have a lock!

My 90's tailgate doesn't have a lock or a hole for one either! I lock mine at work and at the mall or walmart, but that's about it...

I had a 89 tracker and it didn't have one, but my current 91 has one.

Although the 89 & 90's don't have a key hole the lock is in the hindge and if you pull the back panel it's all there, all you have to do is drill a hole for the lock and grab a rod that connects it together, or do what I did and fab a rod thats on the inside and lock it on the inside...

I don't lock it up either.  Most the time the windows are down and out anyway.

I usually lock my doors if I don't have the top down, just to give myself a false sense of security!  I don't worry much though, cause I try not to leave anything of much value in sight.  Even if I do nothing more than cover with a jacket or put in the unlocked glove box.  The controls for my remote CD player tuck under the dash when not in use and the stereo is stock.  However, in 3 years, I don't think I've locked the tailgate but a couple of times.

if u have nothing to steal then whats the use? if u have alot to steal then yes lock that sh$t!!! lol

i have a hard top now..but the hard top is just about as easy as unzipping the back..just push on the top above the seats and those little swing type latchs will break pretty easily (had to do it a few months ago)
