16 valve valve lash
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:13:50 PM »
I have done this on an 8 valve, but not on a 16valve. I can set the lash on the exhaust valves, but where do I put the gauge on the intake valves?

Between the cam and rocker. Thats how you should set them all.

on all the rest of them I was told to check gap between valve stem and adjuster.

Any way you wish, just as long as the valve has the right lash,
otherwise you will burn the valves

On 8Vs, you check them between the rocker and valve stem.
On 16Vs, you check them between the rocker and the cam lobe.

Alternatively, you can just pluck all your valve-lashes...

thanks for the info. On another note I also noticed that the head set came with a flat thermostat gasket and not the O ring. To me it looks like I need the O ring type gasket and not the flat one. Is this correct?

I believe if the block or thermostat housing is machined with a shoulder (recess) the o-ring is required, if not then use the flat gasket, but not both.

Hit the bulk bins of O-rings and match one to the Dia and thickness you need

Wild
If I remember correctly, the O-ring inner circumference is split so it fits around the outer circumfeence of the thermostat.
