I once had a Cordoba........minus the Corinthian leather (sorry Ricardo).
Had a 360 2 bbl and a slightly worn front main bearing.
With a fram filter I got not only lifter tap, but also a few heavy thumps on initial startup. I also used QUaker sludge, er state, long before equillon llc bought them out and moved it all to Texas.
Kept the oil, but moved to Purolator. Lifter tap and crank knock cease.
Flash forward a few years.......still a mopar man.......now its a 92 spirit, 2.5 four banger (the one with the balance shafts). Came with a Fram on there PH3614 was the number. Had some cam knock until the temp gauge moved a bit and the head got warm. Now I am using Havoline 5W30. Kept the oil, moved to NAPA Gold filters, cam knock goes away.
Flash forward again. This time still mopar man.....2000 Dak with the 4.7 v-8. I drive home to Indiana pops does me a favor one day and changes the oil. Puts a Fram on there. I fire it up, using Mobil 1 now, and some brief lifter chatter. I make sure he put 6 quarts in there, he did. Look below, there is the radioactive orange container. Borrowed his intrepid, 2.7 L vee six, fire it up, a bit of lifter chatter too (I'm using it to go to town to get a "real" filter for my truck. I stop lift the hood, sure 'nuff.........fram filter.) While at town, I grab not one, but two NAPA Gold filters, one for my rig, one for pops. Kept the oil in both, change the filters, noise on startup gone.
Asyou can see, I've spanned about 16 years here and four different engine designs, one a pushrod v-8, the others modern OHC engines. But the knock, chatter thing was the same and all had fram filter on there. By getting rid of the Fram, I got rid of the knock.
Now about my old 727 torqueflight in that Cordoba with the 2-3 shift flare.......................
