Legality of driving on road without doors
« on: March 05, 2004, 12:41:53 AM »
Are there any laws regarding driving on road without doors?  Also how hard is it to remove and reinstall the doors on a Trackick?

Varies by location.  Colorado has very loose laws - it's common to see topless, doorless rigs in the summer, all over the state.  I believe a BIG phillips screwdriver will remove the doors on a Kick (except mine, where the previous owner WELDED the hinge).

He must of had his doors blown off too many times by a samurai  ;D    You could just fab up a quick bar going across, just so it looks like something is there, a friend of mine took a welding class at the local college and made a door that kinda looks like a v that hooks to the hinges and has a pin that drops throught the loop on the back, it's made of alum. so it is real lite and looks good 8)

Here in Florida having doors on or off is a variable dependent on your floor-sill.

Samurais and most Jeeps/Trucks have enough of a sill below the door such that if something falls on the floor, it will not be able to roll out of the vehicle. After talking to a local (florida again) police officer, he said the only concern about people running doorless is things rolling out of the vehicle at speeds and causing injury, accident, or otherwise. As said, the sills prevent this.

as far as removing the doors, it's as simple as taking off the fenders and removing 4 bolts.

I just open my doors and pull the pins.  Then I filed down the barbs that keep the pin from spining when you use the doors.

I keep them oiled so wear is not a problem.

So now when I want the doors off.  I pull four pins and off I go.

When I'm done, I just put the pins back in.  No lining up the doors.  Had no problems so far.

Have you ever taken a door off in your house by pulling the pins out of the hinges?

Anyway, no I don't have any pictures at this time.  But just open up your doors, and look at the hinges.  Down through the center you will see a steel rod going from the top to the bottom of the hinge.

The top hinge, the pin is installed from the bottom.  If you look you will see it's pointed at the top and a "E" clip holding it in place.

Remove the clip and drive the pin down and out.

Same for the bottom but you have to drive the pin up.

I know that doors and side mirrors are an option in NC. Don't even need them to get inspected  ;D
